A short crawl up a long pier (or dock as most would say...)

Breakfast at Grandpa Ken's led to a little exploration of the dock and river edge. The river is significantly higher and faster than usual, so it was fun to watch the ice chunks fly by.

Though fun to watch, the ice has also done some damage to the shoreline. Considering the damage being done farther north though, we'll count our blessings. We're so excited for Mia and Allison to do more outdoor exploration this summer now that they're mostly always on 2 feet!

An Ely Getaway

Grandpa Ken had reserved this cabin in Ely a couple of weeks ago. I was planning to be in Minneapolis for my first weekend ever away from the girls to celebrate a friend's birthday, so Shawn decided to pack up the family and head to the cabin. Aunties Amy and Katie, Uncle Chris and Grandpa Ken joined in! Shawn had strict orders to take lots of pictures! Mia and Allison had lots of fun sledding, playing in the snow, walking around the cabin, putting cups on their hands, and just being silly with family.

When they all left that Friday night I didn't know if I wanted to cry or be happy. I did rejoice in having two mornings in which I could sleep in for the first time in 20 months! However, it was great to have the family back Sunday night!

Gleaming the cubes...

Let the climbing begin! The girls have decided the toy boxes are at least as fun as the toys they contain, if not more! They've been climbing in and out, up and down, with surprisingly few tumbles to report! (I'm still tempted to make them wear their bike helmets...)

Lovin' the library...

(Not yawning... Just copying some 'baboon' noise I was making. Her book was about baboons.)

Roadtrip to South St. Paul...

It had been a long time since the girls last got snuggles from Shawn's grandma, Aunt Dee, and Uncle Jim, so in a last minute decision we rallied the troops and drove south for dinner and a visit. The girls had fun showing off their stair climbing and walking skills. They also discovered the teething benefits of milkbones. (Thanks for sharing, little Maggie?! รต )

She's goin' the distance!

Nanny Jenn and Teresa, a birth-3 teacher that checks in with the girls, were finally able to capture on video our little walking Mia!

"And I even have a double ear infection!" - Alli

The girls haven't been sleeping well and they have been especially clingy in the morning. There were many tears and ear tugs going on when I left for work today, so I was surprised to have camera proof of what a great day they had when I got home! We later found out that both Mia and Alli have ear infections!

This video does a better job of showing the 'boldness' with which the girls are walking. We have yet to catch Mia on video, but she is becoming a very confident walker too!

The expression in the picture above means Mia wants a kiss- Mia and Alli may have been Maori warriors in a previous life because their kisses are typically in the New Zealand style of forehead nuzzling!

Little Puppy Learns to Share...

I can't wait for Mia and Allison to acquire the oh-so-desirable ability to share. We've entered the stage in which they know exactly what they want, and 9 times out of 10, what they want is what the other has. In the absence of 'may I please have a turn with that?', we are left with tantrums, pushing, and even attempted biting. So, bring on the parenting books. This stage passes quickly, right?

Tunnel time with Nanny Jenn!
